Concentric Sphere Family Environment Theory/Model (CSFET/CSFEM)

The Concentric Sphere Family Environment Theory (CSFET) proposed by Hohashi in 2005 is a family nursing theory that focuses on the family environment that acts on the well-being of the family system unit. This theory has been mapped out as the Concentric Sphere Family Environment Model (CSFEM). It has been verified through actual use, and continues to undergo creative modifications. The model is currently in Version 2.5 (as of February 2013).
The family system unit interacts/transacts with the family environment, which expands internally and externally in the form of concentric spheres. In this dynamic process family resources; family signs/symptoms; and family functions are regulated. The family environment takes the form of a three-dimensional logical space-time continuum formed by three assessment axes of relationship (structural distance, functional distance, and temporal distance), in which five systems (supra system, macro system, micro system, family internal environment system, and chrono system) are located. This enables a three-dimensional view of the entire family system unit. The family system unit maintains its entirety and through adaptation to the family environment, well-being of the family system is realized.
